Eric Sevareid
Arnold Eric Sevareid was an American author and CBS reporter from 1939 to 1977. He was part of the elite group of war correspondents hired by CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow and dubbed "The Boys of Murrow". Sevareid was the first to report on the fall of Paris in 1940, when the city was captured by the Germans during World War II. While traveling to Burma in the Pacific Theater in 1943, his transport plane had an engine problem and it was rescued from enemy lines by a United States Army Air Defense Force search and rescue team established for this effect. In July 1965, he was the last journalist to interview Adlai Stevenson II at the American Embassy in London a few days before his death. Sevareid followed in Murrow's footsteps as a columnist on CBS Evening News for thirteen years, for which he won Emmy and Peabody Awards.
