Eva Marie Cassidy is an American singer and guitarist known for interpretations of jazz, folk and blues, born with a powerful and emotional soprano. In 1992, she released her debut album, The Other Side, a series of duets with avid musician Chuck Brown, followed by a 1996 live solo album Live at Blues Alley. Although honored by the Washington Regional Music Association, she is largely unknown outside of her native Washington, DC. She died of malignancy in 1996 at the age of 33. Two years after her death, Cassidy's music caught the attention of British audiences as her versions "Fields of Gold" and "Over the Rainbow" were Mike Harding and Terry Wogan perform on BBC Radio 2. After the backlash, a recording of the camera "Over the Rainbow", taken by friend Bryan McCulley at Blues Alley in Washington, was shown on BBC Two's Top of the Pops 2 .
