Finn Mortensen is a Norwegian composer, critic and educator. Finn Einar Mortensen was born in Oslo. His parents are the editors Ernst Gustav Mortensen and Anna Marie Damæs. Mortensen grew up in the publishing industry and was initially scheduled to move into his father's publishing house, Ernst G. Mortensens Forlag A / S. He studied harmony with Thorleif Eken, composed with Klaus Egge and with Niels Viggo Bentzon at the Royal Academy of Denmark, as well as piano and doubles at the Oslo Conservatory. He also attended Darmstadt summer school and courses led by Karlheinz Stockhausen at Studio für Elektronische Musik in Cologne. One of Mortensen's original public performances was String Trio, Op. 3, performed at the Young Nordic Music Festival in Oslo in 1950. In April 1954, he debuted the composer with Øistein Sommerfeldt.
