Mahmut Gazi Yaşargil is a Turkish neurosurgery and medical scientist. He collaborated with Raymond M. P. Donaghy M.D at the University of Vermont to develop microsurgery techniques. Yaşargil treats epilepsy and brain tumors with tools he designed. From 1953 until retiring in 1993, he was first resident, principal resident, then professor and dean of the department of neurosurgery at the University of Zurich and Zurich University Hospital. In 1999, he was named "Neurosurgery Man of the 1950-1999 century" at the annual meeting of the General Meeting of Neurosurgeons. He is a founding member of the Eurasian Academy. He is considered one of the greatest neurosurgeons of the modern era.
