Sir George Francis Hampson, the 10th Baron is an English entomologist. Hampson studied at Charterhouse School and Exeter College, Oxford. He went to India to become a tea producer in the Nilgiri Hills of the Madras Presidency, where he became interested in moths and butterflies. Returning to England, he volunteered at the Museum of Natural History, where he wrote The Lepidoptera of the Nilgiri District and The Lepidoptera Heterocera of Ceylon as parts 8 and 9 of the Illustration of Typical Lepidoptera Species. Günther offered him an assistant position at the museum in March 1895 and, after succeeding the baronage title in 1896, he was promoted to assistant guardian in 1901.
