George Rogers Clark
George Rogers Clark is an American surveying officer, serviceman and militia from Virginia who became the highest level Patriotic military officer on the Northwest Border during the American Revolutionary War. He served as the militia leader in Kentucky for most of the war. He is best known for the battles to capture the famous Kaskaskia and Vincennes during the Illinois Campaign, which significantly undermined British influence in the Northwest Territories. The British ceded all of the Northwest Territory to the United States in the Treaty of Paris of 1783, and Clark was often hailed as the "Old Northwest Conqueror." Clark's major military achievements came before his thirtieth birthday. He later led the militia in the early wars of the Indian Northwest War, but was accused of being drunk on duty. He was humiliated and forced to resign, although he has requested a formal investigation of the allegations.
