It is considered part of the Prairie School style and is known to combine traditional architecture with the Craftsmanship. & Art. According to the architectural historian H. Allen Brooks, “His influence in the Midwest was very deep and lasting, in his time certainly as great as [Frank Lloyd] Wright. Compared with the conventional architecture of that time, his works express freedom and originality, his interior stands out with wide open spaces and flexibility ”. Maher was elected a member of the American Institute of Architects in 1916.
