Gerald Vincent "Jerry" Casale is an American musician, songwriter, music video maker and songwriter. Casale's musical career spans over 40 years. He rose to prominence in the late 1970s as the co-founder and bassist of the new wave band Devo, which released a Top 20 hit in 1980 with the single "Whip It". Casale is the principal lyricist and one of the principal composers of Devo's music and directs most of Devo's music videos. He is one of only two members to have been with Devo throughout its history. Bob, Casale's brother, is also performing with the group. Casale pursued a solo career in 2005 while still a member of Devo with Jihad Jerry & the Evildoers project. The project received few ads in addition to the music video for the single "Army Girls Gone Wild". Jihad Jerry performed on several shows at the end of Devo's 2006 tour, performing the song "Beautiful World". He also performed with other groups from time to time.
