Harold Bloom is an American literary critic and is Professor of the Humanities of Sterling at Yale University. In 2017, Bloom was described as "perhaps the most famous literary critic in the English-speaking world". After publishing his first book in 1959, Bloom wrote more than 50 books, including more than 40 books of literary criticism, several books on religion, and a novel. During his life he edited hundreds of anthologies related to many literary and philosophical figures for the Chelsea House publishing house. Bloom's book has been translated into over 40 languages. Bloom was the traditional defender of the West at a time when literary schools focused on what he derided as "the school of resentment." He trained at Yale University, Cambridge University and Cornell University.
