Herb Brooks
Herbert Paul Brooks Jr. is an American ice hockey player and coach. His most notable achievement came in 1980 as the head coach of the United States Olympic team winning a gold medal in Lake Placid. At the Olympics, Brooks' US team defeated the popular Soviet team in a match known as "Miracle on Ice". Brooks will continue as coach of several National Hockey League teams, as well as the French team at the 1998 Winter Olympics. Eventually, he returned to coaching the US men's team and won. silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brooks was killed in an auto accident in 2003. At the time of his death, he was the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins player's chief of staff.
