About Ivan Moravec
Concert musician whose interpretations of Czech composers were internationally acclaimed.
He enrolled in the Prague Conservatory when he was 20, followed by studies at the Prague Academy of Arts.
He was fastidious about the condition of the pianos on which he played, often meeting with the venue's technician prior to a performance.
His father would take him to the opera as a child and taught him to sight-read and sing the opera scores.
His 1965 recording of Frederic Chopin's Nocturnes was selected by The New York Times in 2010 as part of their celebration of the composer's bicentennial.
