James Longstreet is an American soldier and diplomat. He was one of the most important Confederate generals during the American Civil War and a major subordinate of General Robert E. Lee, who called him the "Old War Horse". He served under Lee as a corps commander in most of the battles fought by the Northern Virginia Army in the East Theater, and briefly with Braxton Bragg in the Tennessee Army at the Theater side. West. After graduating from the American Military Academy at West Point, Longstreet served in the US-Mexico War. He suffered a thigh injury at the Battle of Chapultepec and later married his first wife, Louise Garland. During the 1850s, he served on the US southwest border. In June 1861, Longstreet resigned his committee in the US Army and joined the Confederacy Army. He commanded Confederation in a first victory at Blackburn's Ford in July and played a minor role in the first Battle of Bull Run.
