Her family moved to many different homes during her childhood. Married as a teenager, Howard and her husband moved to different locations including Colorado, Kansas, Illinois and Missouri. She took part-time jobs to support her growing family, which includes three children. Howard divorced her first husband in 1953. She met and married her second husband that same year. Moved to their military base, the couple and their three children live a suburban lifestyle. In 1955, Howard discovered that he was a stubborn man and that she and her children moved to Los Angeles, California.
