Joseph Leslie Sample is an American composer and keyboardist. He was one of the founding members of Jazz Crusaders, the band becoming simply Crusaders in 1971, and remained a part of the band until they had their last album in 1991. From the 1970s he had had a successful solo career and performed in recordings by other artists and performing groups including Miles Davis, George Benson, Jimmy Witherspoon, BB King, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Anita Baker and Supremes. The model incorporated jazz, gospel, blues, Latin and classical genres into her music.
