Larry Levan is an American DJ best known for his decades-long stint at New York's Paradise Garage nightclub, which has been described as the archetypal modern dance club. He developed a sect that followed those who called his ministry "Saturday Mass". DJ Francois Kevorkian after the nightclub noted Levan for introducing a voiceover aesthetic to dance music. With Kevorkian, Levan experimented with drum machines and synthesizers in his orchestral and live orchestral products, opening up the post-disco electronic sound, which could be seen as a massive development in house music. He was also a DJ at Club Zanzibar in the 1980s, which had deep home branding or the Jersey Sound garage.
