His song "The Sidewinder", on the album of the same name, became an unexpected crossover hit on the pop and R&B charts in 1964, while Morgan records show him touching the styles. his musical style is different when his art is maturing. Shortly after the release of The Sidewinder, Morgan joined Blakey for a short time. After leaving Blakey for the last time, Morgan continued to work effectively as a leader and aide along with Hank Mobley and Wayne Shorter, becoming the lifeblood of the Blue Note label.
