Lucy Charles-Barclay is an English professional triathlon specializing in Iron Man and a distance of 70.3. Prior to joining triathlons, Charles was an elite open-water and long-range swimmer. She sought the British swimming team's selection for the 2012 Olympic trials in outdoor swimming pools and water. However, she failed, despite defeating open water test winner Keri-anne Payne at Great North Swim a month earlier. Charles then made her triathlon debut in 2014 and won the women's 18-24 division at the 2015 Ironman World Championship as an amateur. After that, she turned professional. In the first Iron Man of 2018, the Iron Man African Championship, she set the best time for the new individual at 8:56:10. This beats her previous best performance at the 2017 Ironman Worlds, where she finished first with a time of 8:59:48 and is second behind Daniela Ryf.
