French Milk Knisley's painted travel magazine was published by Simon & Schuster in October 2008. It has received positive reviews in a number of publications, such as USA Today and Salon.com. Comic book reviewer Douglas Wolk describes it as "a much watched home letter ... the joy Knisley has in his contagious food and companionship." Knisley holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During this time, she contributed and edited the manga section of the school newspaper, FNews. Knisley holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Center for Animation Studies. She was awarded the 2007 Diamond Prize in the Raw Scholarship for her CCS applied comic, Heart Seed Snow Circuit.
