Samuel Gene Maghett, known as Magic Sam, is an American blues musician from Chicago. He was born in Grenada County, Mississippi, and learned to play the blues by listening to records by Muddy Waters and Little Walter. After moving to Chicago at the age of 19, he was signed to Cobra Records and became known as a blues artist after releasing his first record, "All Your Love", in 1957. He is known for his exceptional tremolo guitar playing. The stage name Magic Sam was coined by bassist and childhood friend of Sam Mack Thompson during Sam's first recording for Cobra, roughly the same as "Maghett Sam". The name Sam was using at the time, Good Rocking Sam, was already being used by another artist.
