He was born in Lancaster, England and raised in Zimbabwe, leaving school at the age of 14 to pursue a career in golf. He has dual Zimbabwean and British nationality, but plays golf as a Zimbabwean. Cayeux finished fourth in the Challenges Tournament in 2004, only to be exempted from the All-European Tournament in 2005. That year he finished 82nd on the Achievement Medal, with a third record at the Scandinavian Masters of Carlsberg. He also won the Vodacom Tour championship in the Sunshine Tour, en route to fifth place in the end-of-season standings. This victory earned him access to the WGC-NEC Invitational, where he played with the world No.1 and the final winner was Tiger Woods in the first round. A less successful season in 2006 saw Cayeux return to the Sunshine Tour the following year, where he had four top finishers en route to eighth in the Order of Merit.
