Masako Katsura, nicknamed "Katsy" and sometimes referred to as "First Lady billiards", was the most active Japanese caromist in the 1950s. Katsura paved the way for women in this sport by competing and ranking among the best in the world of professional billiards dominated by men. Learning the game for the first time from his brother-in-law, then under the tutelage of Japanese champion Kinrey Matsuyama, Katsura became the only professional player in Japan.
