As a full-back in both codes, Ridge played league football for Auckland and went on to become All Black, but never won an international spot. He turned pro in 1990 with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles of the New South Wales Rugby League and won the ARL Premiership title in 1996. He continues to be the captain of the Auckland Warriors and the New Zealand national team. As a precision goalscorer, he has set many scoring records in the rugby league.
