Michael Kidd
Michael Kidd is an American choreographer, dancer, and film and theater actor, whose career spanned five decades, and directed some of the best Broadway musicals and films of the 1940s and 1950s. Kidd, heavily influenced by Charlie Chaplin and Léonide Massine, is a creator of what is called the "integrated musical", in which the choreography is an integral part of the plot. He is perhaps best known for his athletic dance in The Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 1954 musical. Film critic Stephanie Zacharek called the cowherd scene from Seven Brides "one of the coolest dances ever to appear on screen." He is the first choreographer to win five Tony Awards and receive an Honorary Academy Award in 1996 for his dance progress in the film.
