Major General Nguyen Ngoc Loan is a South Vietnamese general and head of the South Vietnamese National Police. The loan gained international attention when he executed the handcuffed prisoner Nguyen Van Lém on February 1, 1968 in Saigon, Vietnam, during the Lunar New Year. Nguyen Van Lap is a member of the Viet Cong. The event was attended and recorded by Vo Suu, an NBC cameraman, and Eddie Adams, an Associated Press photographer. The photo and the film have become two famous images of contemporary American journalism.
