Niclas Engelin is a Swedish heavy metal guitarist for In Flames, Drömriket, Passenger and Engel. Engelin is the lead guitarist for Gardenian and has been in and out of In Flames five times. In 1997, he replaced Glenn Ljungström from In Flames, who had just left. In 1998, Niclas left In Flames and the band's drummer, Bjorn Gelotte, resumed his role as guitarist. Engelin has returned to replace Jesper Strömblad four times since 1998, when he resigned. He briefly joined In Flames in late 2006 and again in 2009, when Jesper struggled with personal issues but argued he would return. Niclas has also toured with In Flames in North and South America, Australia, Europe, South Africa and parts of Japan during their Taste of Chaos tour. On February 12, 2010, Jesper left In Flames, citing the need to deal with ongoing personal issues.
