Olev Siinmaa, is an Estonian architect who is perhaps best known for his work in the coined style of "Pärnu Station Functionalism". Olev Siinmaa was born Oskar Siimann in Pärnu to a family of furniture store owners. He studied furniture and furniture design at engineering schools in Wismar and Konstanz in Germany. In 1925, he was appointed architect of the city of Pärnu, Estonia. Siinmaa's first functional design dates back to 1930 on Roosikrantsi Street in the Estonian capital Tallinn. Siinmaa is perhaps best remembered as the architect of the Pärnu Beach Hotel, built between 1935 and 1937. Completed in 1937, the hotel has been described as the "flagship of new functional architecture ". In 1938, Siinmaa competed with architect Alar Kotli to design the Presidential Palace, which was the office building of former Estonian President Konstantin Päts.
