Paul Weston is an American pianist, orchestra, composer and conductor, who worked in music and television from the 1930s to the 1970s, pioneered the background music genre and is called "Father of the mood music". His compositions include hits such as "I Should Care", "Day by Day" and "Boat Boats". He also wrote classical works including "Crescent City Suite" and religious music, author of several hymns and masses. Born Paul Wetstein in Springfield, Massachusetts, Weston has had an interest in music since childhood and learned to play the piano. He was educated at Springfield High School, then attended Dartmouth College and Columbia University. At Dartmouth, he formed his own band and toured with the university's band. He joined Columbia's dance group, The Blue Lions, but was temporarily unable to perform after a train accident, and he arranged some while recovering. Weston sold his first remixes to Joe Haymes in 1934 .
