Percival Benedict Kahn is an English composer and pianist. His most notable composition is the song Ave Maria with compulsory piano and violin accompaniment. Kahn was born in London in 1880. He is a soprano and at the age of 15 he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he spent four years under the direction of organist and composer Walter Parratt. He also studied piano with Marmaduke Barton and theorized with Charles Wood and Walford Davies. Kahn was accompanied by a number of great musicians of the time, including violinists Mischa Elman and Fritz Kreisler; soprano Dame Nellie Melba, Luisa Tetrazzini, Florence Austral and Oda Slobodskaya, soprano Enrico Caruso, John McCormack, Richard Tauber, Joseph Hislop and Beniamino Gigli; and baritones Titta Ruffo and John Brownlee. Of all these artists, he maintains the closest relationship with Richard Tauber, whom he regularly accompanies for 14 years, from 1933 until Tauber's death.
