After playing college football in Colorado, Carruth was included in the first round of the 1997 NFL Tournament by Carolina Panthers of the National Football Federation and spent three seasons with the team. In 2001, he was found guilty of conspiring to murder then-girlfriend Cherica Adams, who was pregnant with his child. Including re-education, he served an 18-year sentence from 18 to 24 years in the North Carolina Penal System and was released from the Sampson Correctional Facility in Clinton, North Carolina, October 22. 2018.
