Raymond Redvers Briggs, CBE is an English illustrator, designer, graphic novelist and author who has found success with critics and children. He is best known in the UK for The Snowman story, a TV animation and musical adaptation staged every Christmas. Briggs won the Kate Greenaway Medal from the British Library Association in 1966 and 1973, recognizing it as the best illustrated children's book of the year on the subject of English. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the medal, a plaque which named Santa Claus one of the ten most successful works composes the ballot for one of the most popular public elections in the country. For his contributions as an illustrator for children, Briggs reached the final round for the Hans Christian Andersen Prize in 1984. He is a sponsor of the Association of Illustrators.
