Orville J. Rhodes, known as Red Rhodes or O. J. Rhodes, is an American guitarist with steel pedals. His mother taught him to play the Dobro when he was 5, but at 15 he switched to steel guitar. He used to be a boxer and engineer in an oil and gas company before pursuing a career in music. He moved to Los Angeles in 1960 and became a musician. Rhodes has played the steel pedal on numerous country, pop and rock albums with The Monkees, Michael Nesmith, James Taylor, The Beach Boys, Seals and Crofts, The Byrds, The Carpenters, Spanky and Our Gang, among others. by the musicians of the Wrecking Crew studio. He is often remembered for his work with former Monkee Michael Nesmith on Nesmith's solo albums in the early 1970s.
