Richard Greenberg is an American television writer and screenwriter known for his humorous portrayals of middle-class American life. He has performed over 25 plays on and off stage in New York City and eight at the South Coast Repertory Theater, including The Violet Hour, Everett Beekin and Hurray at Last. Greenberg is perhaps best known for his 2003 Tony Award-winning play Take Me Out about the conflicts that arose after a Professional Baseball League player casually announced to the media that he was gay. The play premiered in London and premiered in New York as the first collaboration between Britain's Donmar Warehouse and New York's Public Theater. After moving to Broadway in early 2003, Take Me Out achieved wide acclaim for Greenberg and numerous prestigious awards.
