Richard McNamara is an English musician, singer-songwriter and producer best known as the lead guitarist and co-lead singer of the British group Embrace. He and his brother, Danny, grew up in the village of Bailiff Bridge, in Brighouse, near Halifax. Danny is the lead singer of the group. Richard and Danny McNamara attend Hipperholme Grammar School in the nearby town of Hipperholme with their brother Jonathan. According to Danny, as a child, Richard was nicknamed "Smart Man" because he loves fire and always plays with matchboxes. McNamara was originally the drummer for a thrash metal garage band called Gross Misconduct as a teenager. Embrace supposedly started when his brother walked into a session and started telling him and his team-mates what to do. Although McNamara worked with his brother to write many of the band's songs, he only sang some of his own songs.
