Richard William Wright is an English musician and co-founder of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He plays keyboards and sings, performs on most of Pink Floyd's albums and performed all their tours. Wright grew up in Hatch End, Middlesex and met Pink Floyd's future teammates Roger Waters and Nick Mason while studying architecture at Regent Street Polytechnic in London. After being joined by publisher and musician Syd Barrett, the group achieved commercial success in 1967. Barrett was replaced by David Gilmour in 1968, who with Waters and Wright resumed work. Initially contributing more as a singer / songwriter, Wright went on to work primarily as a songwriter for Waters and Gilmour. He started making fewer contributions in the late 1970s and left the band after filming The Wall in 1981. He returned as a session player in 1987 for A Mo Moment Lapse of Reason and came back to full force. time at The Division Bell in 1994.
