Ron Delany
Ronald Michael Delany, better known as Ron or Ronnie Delany, is a former Irish mid-range runner. He won the gold medal at a distance of 1,500 meters at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne. He went on to win the bronze medal at a distance of 1,500 meters at the 1958 European Athletics Championship in Stockholm. Delany also competed at the 1954 European Athletics Championships in Bern and the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, though he was less successful on these occasions. Retiring from athletics in 1962, he achieved his status as Ireland's most famous Olympic athlete as well as one of the greatest international athletes and ambassadors in the country's history.
