Roy J. Glauber
Roy Jay Glauber is an American theoretical physicist. He is Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics at Harvard University and Assistant Professor of Optical Science at the University of Arizona. Born in New York, he received half of the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his contributions to the quantum theory of optical association", the other half being shared by John L. Hall and Theodor W. Hänsch. In this 1963 work, he created an optical detection model and explained the basic characteristics of different types of light, such as laser light and light from bulbs. His theories are widely used in the field of quantum optics. In statistical physics, he pioneered the dynamics of first order phase transitions, since he identified and studied the random kinetics of the Ising model in an influential article published in 1963.
