Samuel Kamau Wanjiru is a Kenyan long distance runner. He set the current youth world record at 10,000 meters in 2005 and set three times the world record for the semi-marathon. He moved on to full marathon competition and won the 2008 Beijing Olympics with an Olympic record time of 2:06:32; became the first Kenyan to win an Olympic gold medal in a marathon. He became the youngest marathon gold medalist since 1932. The following year, he won the London Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, running the fastest marathons recorded in turn. received in UK and USA. He kept his Chicago title in 2010 during a heavy season due to injury. In 2011, he died after falling from a balcony at his home in Nyahururu after a marriage dispute.
