Stanford White is an American architect. He is also a partner of the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, one of the most important Fine Arts firms. He designed many homes for the rich, in addition to many civil, agency and religious buildings. His temporary Arch of Washington Square was so famous that he was tasked with designing a permanent one. Its design principles represent the "American Renaissance". In 1906, White was shot dead by Harry Kendall Thaw at Madison Square Theater in front of a large audience. Thaw is a millionaire obsessed with White's rape and his relationship with wife Evelyn Nesbit, which started when she was 16 and years before they got married. She married Thaw in 1905 and worked as an actress. The thaw was considered mentally unstable at the time of the shooting.
