David Howell Evans, better known as Edge or simply Edge, is an English Irish-born Irish musician, singer and songwriter. He is known as the lead guitarist, keyboardist and sub vocalist of the rock band U2. As a member of the group since inception, he has recorded 14 studio albums with them as well as a solo album. Its subtle guitar playing style, characteristic of U2 music, is distinguished by a chime, utilizing rhythmic latency, hum notes, overtones, and widespread use of effects units. Born in England to Welsh parents and raised in Ireland, Edge formed a band with his classmates at Mount Temple Comprehensive School and his brother Dik in 1976. The band then performed. Inspired by the character of punk rock and its basic arrangements, the band began to write their own material. They eventually became one of the most successful artists in popular music, with albums like The Joshua Tree in 1987 and Achtung Baby in 1991.
