Twyla Tharp
Twyla Tharp is an American dancer, choreographer and author living and working in New York City. In 1966, she founded the company Twyla Tharp Dance. His works often use classical music, jazz and contemporary pop music. From 1971 to 1988, Twyla Tharp Dance toured many parts of the world, performing original works. In 1973, Tharp choreographed Deuce Coupe in the Beach Boys track for the Joffrey Ballet. Deuce Coupe is considered the first "crossover ballet", is a mixture of ballet and modern dance. She then choreographed Push Comes to Shove, with Mikhail Baryshnikov and arguably the best example of crossover ballet. In 1988, Twyla Tharp Dance merged with the American Ballet Theater, since then ABT has released 16 works of Tharp. On May 24, 2018, Tharp received an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Harvard University.
