Bastille is an English pop rock band formed in 2010. Originally started as a solo project with lead singer Dan Smith, but later expanded to include keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist and guitarist Will Farquarson and drummer Chris "Woody" Wood. The group's name is derived from Bastille Day, celebrated on July 14, Smith's birthday. After their first independent single and self-released EP, the group signed with Virgin Records. Their first studio album, Bad Blood, was released in March 2013 and entered the UK Album Chart at number one and included hit single "Pompeii" at No. 2. on the UK Singles Chart. The group was nominated for four Brit awards at the 2014 awards ceremony, winning the UK's Breakthrough Directing award. By February 2019, Bastille had sold more than nine million records worldwide.
