William Hull
William Hull is an American soldier and politician. He fought in the American Revolutionary War and was appointed Governor of the Michigan Territory, acquiring large estates from several Native American tribes under the Treaty of Detroit. However, he is best remembered as the general during the War of 1812, who surrendered to Fort Detroit to the British on August 16, 1812 after the siege of Detroit. After the battle, he was taken to the armed court, convicted and sentenced to death, but he was pardoned by President James Madison and his reputation somewhat restored.
