Yiannis Kouros is a Greek long-distance runner living in Greece. He is sometimes referred to as the "running God" or the "Pheidippid successor". He holds numerous outdoor road world records for men from 100 to 1000 miles and numerous road and track records from 12 hours to 6 days. In 1991, he played the role of Pheidippides in the film The History of the Marathon: A Hero's Journey, a film that traces the history of marathon running. Kouros rose to fame by winning the Spartathlon in 1984 in record time and the Sydney Ultramarathon arrived in Melbourne in 1985 with a record time of 5 days, 5 hours, 7 minutes and 6 seconds. He broke the previous record held by Cliff Young. Kouros held Australian citizenship for part of his running career and was inducted into the Australian Pole Runners Association Hall of Fame in 2019.
