Jacques Abram, born Jack Gregory Abram, American classical pianist, was born in Lufkin, Texas and died in Tampa, Florida. Abram started improvising at 3 and performing in public at 6. As a young man, he studied with Ima Hogg and Ruth Burr in Houston. At the request of Ignatius Jan Paderewski and Josef Hofmann, who listened to Abram during the concert, his parents enrolled him at Curtis Academy, where he studied with David Saperton. At the age of 13, Abram moved to the Juilliard School, where he continued to study with Ernest Hutcheson. The famous pianist and pupil of Leschetizky, Arthur Shattuck, also mentored Abram for many years. The National Federation of Music Clubs awarded Abram the Schubert Memorial Prize in 1937. Following these awards, Abram made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Carnegie Hall performing the MacDowell mini ensemble. D. During World War II, Abram was stationed with a special service unit in San Antonio, Texas.
