Amelia Muller Fay is an American concert pianist, director of the New York Women's Symphony Association, and renowned columnist with memories of European classical music. As a student of Theodor Kullak, Fay traveled to Europe to study with Franz Liszt. Her letters from Germany, including descriptions of her training and the concerts she attended, were published in 1880 under the title Research of Music in Germany. These memoirs include a full biography of Liszt. Fay was born in 1844 in Bayou Goula, Louisiana. She is the third of six daughters and the fifth of nine children of priests Charles Fay and Emily Fay of Louisiana and St. Mary. Albans, Vermont. She is the niece of Charles Jerome Hopkins. His sister, Rose Emily Fay, is married to conductor Theodore Thomas and sister Melusina Fay Peirce is the wife of American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce. Amy Fay studied piano with Harvard Professor John Knowles Paine and at the New England Conservatory.
