Benjamin "Ben" Bocquelet is a French English animator, writer, producer and artistic director. He is the creator of the wonderful world of Gumball. He also directed a short film called The Hell's Kitchen in 2003. When Cartoon Network Development Studio Europe was founded in 2007, Bocquelet was hired to help people advertise their projects for Cartoon Network after the Nickelodeon and Jetix division in Europe was shut down. However, when the studio decided to ask employees to present their own ideas, it decided to take some of the disapproved characters the studio created for the ad and put it all into a series of films, in the midst of school scene. Daniel Lennard, vice president of the original series and development at Turner Broadcasting Systems UK, liked the idea and the series was finally announced.
