Justin Portal Welby is the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury and the longest-serving bishop of the Church of England. He has held this post since 2013. Welby is Vicar of Southam, Warwickshire, and most recently Bishop of Durham, serving just over a year. Officially, he is the primate of all of England and the main primate interested in the Anglican fellowship in the world. Welby studied at the University of Cambridge, where he read history and law. Later in life he studied for ordination at St John's College, Durham. After several appointments, he became rector of Liverpool in 2007 and bishop of Durham in 2011. Welby's theology is believed to represent the evangelical tradition of Anglicanism. Having worked in the business sector before ordination, several of his publications explore the relationship between finance and religion and, as a member of the House of Representatives, he is a member of the Standards Committee.
