Brigadier General Kenneth Newton Walker was a US Army pilot and US Air Force general, who had a significant influence in the development of the Air Force doctrine. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II. Walker joined the United States Army in 1917, after the Americans entered World War I. He trained as a pilot and became a flight trainer. In 1920, after the end of the war, he received his rank in the regular army. After holding various positions, Walker graduated from the Air Corps Tactical School in 1929 and then worked there as an instructor. He favors the creation of a separate air force that is not part of the other military branches. He is a strong advocate of the effectiveness of strategic bombing, publishes articles on this topic and is a member of the group known as the "Bomber Mafia" that protects the superiority of bombing over other forms of military aviation.
