Эдгар Ованнисян, Ованнисян или Оганесян — армянский композитор, профессор композиции Ереванской государственной консерватории, народный артист Советского Союза. В 1953 году он окончил Ереванскую государственную консерваторию, затем продолжил обучение в аспирантуре Московской консерватории, где работал под руководством известного армянского композитора Арама Хачатуряна. В 1962-1968 годах был директором Государственного театра оперы и балета в Ереване. Многие считают Оганесяна одним из самых влиятельных армянских композиторов ХХ века. Он является автором балетов, в том числе «Жанна Д'Арк», «Суламифь» и «Мармар». Он также экспериментировал с различными музыкальными стилями, включая неоклассику, фолк и даже джаз – например, в «Концертных вариациях для саксофона и джазового оркестра», опере, различных произведениях концертной музыки и многих музыкальных произведениях из фильмов.

Автор хоровых и оркестровых произведений, а также музыки к балету, опере и кино в ХХ веке. В 1979 году получил Государственную премию Советского Союза.
