Arthur Stewart Farmer is an American jazz player and bugle player. He also plays the flompet, a trumpet-bugle combination specially designed for him. He and his identical twin brother, double bass player Addison Farmer, began playing professionally in high school. The art gained more attention after the release of his composition record "Farmer's Market" in 1952. He then moved from Los Angeles to New York City, where he performed and recorded with musicians such as Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins and Gigi Gryce became known primarily as a bebop player. As Farmer's popularity grew, he shifted from bebop to more experimental forms through collaborations with composers like George Russell and Teddy Charles. He then joined the quartet of Gerry Mulligan and with Benny Golson, co-founder of Jazztet.
